Choosing the right dimensions for your dining table is essential for comfort at the table and good balance with the surrounding space.
How much space is needed per guest
As a general rule, each person needs about 60 centimetres of space along the table's perimeter, to be able to move and eat comfortably.
Indicative sizes for 4, 6 and 8 people
A 120-centimetre round table comfortably seats 4 people, a 150-160-centimetre one up to 6, while for 8 guests an oval or extended rectangular table is recommended.
Clear space around the table
To move chairs without difficulty, it's best to leave at least 90-100 centimetres clear between the table's edge and surrounding walls or furniture. To learn more, read also: Tulip Table for Small Spaces: The Right Dimensions for Compact Dining Rooms and Kitchens.
