How to Protect a Marble Top from Stains and Scratches

Marble is a hard-wearing yet porous material: protecting it in everyday life is easier than you'd think, with a few practical precautions. Discover our marble Tulip tables.

The most common causes of stains and scratches

Glasses, bottles and hot plates placed directly on the top, as well as metal utensils dragged across the surface, are among the most frequent causes of unwanted marks.

Everyday precautions

Using coasters, placemats and trivets helps prevent water rings and scratches, keeping the top protected without giving up everyday use of the table.

For everyday use, placemats with a felt or cork back and a runner down the middle protect the most exposed areas without hiding the stone. Remember that fabric does not stop acidic liquids: if wine or lemon is spilled, lift the cloth straight away and dry the top. Professional protective treatments

A sealant treatment applied periodically creates an invisible barrier against liquids and acidic substances, significantly reducing the risk of permanent stains. To learn more, read also: How to Clean and Care for a Marble Table.
