The Tulip table was born in 1956 from the pencil of Eero Saarinen, a Finnish-American architect and designer, with one clear goal: to eliminate the “slum of legs” that cluttered the space beneath traditional tables.
A revolutionary idea
Saarinen replaced the classic four legs with a single, chalice-shaped central base, able to support a wide top with elegance and visual lightness. The result was a sculptural object, as functional as it was iconic, originally produced by Knoll.
From design to icon
Over the following decades, the Tulip table became a symbol of twentieth-century design, appearing in films, interior magazines and homes around the world, loved for its ability to suit minimalist as well as more classic settings.
The Tulip today, in marble
At Tavoli.Design we reinterpret this icon with fine marble tops: Carrara, Marquinia and Emperador Dark, handcrafted in Italy, bringing together the history of twentieth-century design with the quality of Made in Italy materials.
